About Fairweather
We are a small dynamic registered charity which is currently working in an exciting climate of development and change.
Fairweather is a housing charity supporting vulnerable women and
children and as an organisation, we are a dedicated and passionate group
who wish to make a real difference to real people in
Currently Fairweather’s primary work is in relation to housing,
resettlement and support of women and children, who are in need of
housing, security, and emotional / psychological support.
The schemes we are running cater for women and their children who are
vulnerable for a variety of reasons, including homelessness, domestic
violence, and mental health problems. At one scheme we run a playroom
and have workers available for the children.
Fairweather is run by a voluntary management committee and is staffed by
paid workers. Since the first scheme opened in 1982 providing
emergency, short stay accommodation in temporary premises, we now have
four houses and are able to work with women and children once they have
been resettled into the community.
Our philosophy is to provide help, support and advice to vulnerable
women and their children in order to enable them to make choices and
develop coping strategies to cope with difficult life situations which
can make people vulnerable. We attempt to heighten self-esteem and
hopefully help to bring fun into the lives of the people we work with.
We are looking to develop our activities in other areas of support to
different client groups, but also in different areas such as training.
We are determined to become excellent in all areas of activity and feel
passionate about equality, empowerment and enterprise.
